News

Healing Art Missions exists to support those in need around the world. Beginning in 1998, we have been supporting the people of Haiti in the areas of health, nutrition, education, housing, and social justice. Our work is committed to fostering the dignity of the individual, respecting the ways of the community, and reflecting the strength of a loving God.

We are a group of people from all walks of life committed to sharing our talents, resources and good fortune with those less fortunate.

While Dr. Tracee Laing and Paul Hammond were on the road in August and September, they spread the word about Healing Art Missions from Ohio to the west coast and back. The pair added the HAM logo and website address to the back of their teardrop trailer, raising curiosity and interest wherever they traveled.

All of us at Healing Art Missions wish you a hopeful and prosperous new year.
We thank all of our donors for their generous support in helping HAM's continue our success in providing primary health care to the 20,000 people in Dumay, Haiti. But the needs in Haiti are great and continue despite the changing of the calendar. Please consider whatever financial support you can provide and visit our Support Page.

Major Gifts for 2012

Once again, the First Presbyterian Church of Granville has helped HAM launch a new year with a major leadership gift. The church, which has been a major supporter of HAM since the early this century, has awarded HAM $20,000 to help continue our important work in Haiti. Our sincere thanks go out to the entire congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Granville for their ongoing support of Healing Art Missions. To find out more about the church and their work, visit their website at  http://www.granpres.org/.

Columbus Practicing Pediatricians has awarded HAM $15,000 in support of our programs in 2012 through their philanthropic arm that supports children. CPP is a non-profit collective of pediatricians in Columbus who work collaboratively to advocate for pediatrics and their individual practices. The organization contributed to HAM once before, in 2010 in support of our earthquake recovery efforts. Great thanks go out to the members of CPP for their leadership support of our work.

Noel Dusan Eye Clinic

HAM is pleased to announce the opening of the Noel Dusan Eye Clinic in January 2012, located in the Centre de Santé Communautaire de Dumay. Noel Dusan, pictured right, Past District Governor of District 13K of Lions Club International, was instrumental in helping Dr. Janine Flood to first bring eye care to the Dumay community in Haiti. Through Noel’s efforts, HAM received a major grant from Lions Club International in 2003 supporting the eye care program overseen by Dr. Flood.

To honor Noel, who passed away in 2011, HAM has named the new eye clinic that opened in January, the Noel Dusan Eye Clinic. The clinic will be located within HAM’s Dumay clinic and will initially operate one week per month. The clinic will offer complete eye exams, glaucoma and cataract treatment, eye infection treatment, and eyeglasses. Eyeglasses are supplied through Lions Club donations.

An anonymous leadership donation will match contributions to fund the equipping and operation of the Noel Dusan Eye Clinic to a total of $4,000. The value of your contribution today will be doubled to further Noel's dream of providing eye care to a population that otherwise would not receive care. If you would like to contribute to this important program, please visit our support page for instructions. Please note on your check or PayPal payment that your donation is for the Noel Dusan Eye Clinic.

Special Thanks... to Dr. Jonathan Warner of the Kenton Vision Care, Kenton,OH for donating an autorefractor for use at the new Noel Dusan Eye Clinic(see above)

and to... the congregation of First Presbyterian Church and community of Granville, OH for raising $2000 through an opportunity drawing for a donated hand-sewn, appliqued, pinwheel pattern quilt. The money has been designated for support HAM's cholera clinic in Dumay, Haiti. Special thanks to congregation members Terrie Hostetter and Janine Flood for their hard work and perseverance in making this fundraiser so successful.
